  2. “Can God Use My Life?” 1 Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest 2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. (Acts 19:1-2)

  3. “Can God Use My Life?” 3As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” (Acts 9:3-4)

  4. “Can God Use My Life?” 5 “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. 6 “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” 7The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. (Acts 19:5-7)

  5. “Can God Use My Life?” 8 Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. 9 For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything. (Acts 9:5-9)

  6. “Can God Use My Life?” 10In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!” “Yes, Lord,” he answered. 11 The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. (Acts 9:10-11)

  7. “Can God Use My Life?” 12In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.” (Acts 9:12)

  8. “Can God Use My Life?” 13“Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your saints in Jerusalem. 14 And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.” (Acts 9:13-14)

  9. “Can God Use My Life?” 15 But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to carry my name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel. 16 I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.” (Acts 9:15-16)

  10. “Can God Use My Life?” 17Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord-Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here-has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 9:17)

  11. “Can God Use My Life?” 18Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, 19and after taking some food, he regained his strength. (Acts 9:17-19)

  12. “Can God Use My Life?” • Our Past Condition Is No Obstacle • Saul was breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. • He was guilty of doing every thing in his power to put Christianity to death. 4 I persecuted the followers of this Way to their death, arresting both men and women and throwing them into prison (Acts 22:4).

  13. “Can God Use My Life?” • Saul was a wicked man, but here’s the good news; his wickedness was no obstacle to the grace and saving power of God. • When Paul was baptized, he was changed forever by the grace of God! • Our past will not prevent us from being used by God.

  14. “Can God Use My Life?” • There are 3 records of our past with which we must deal. • There is the record we carry in our mind. • There is the record carried by all those who knew what we were before. • There is the record carried by Satan.

  15. “Can God Use My Life?” 12 as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us (Psa 103:12). 25 “I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more (Isa 43:25).

  17. “Can God Use My Life?” • There is no doubt that God can take those who have failed and that He can use them use for His glory.

  18. “Can God Use My Life?” • Our Present Circumstances Are No Obstacle • The example of Paul. • Paul was on his way to Damascus to arrest Christians and to take them to their deaths. • Yet, in spite of all this, the Lord was able to change this man and to use him for the glory of God.

  19. “Can God Use My Life?” • God can do the same thing in your life and mine. • He can take us, with all the baggage that we carry, and He can use us for His glory. • The Bible is filled with this kind of story. • Moses • The Gadarene Demoniac.

  20. “Can God Use My Life?” • Our present circumstances have not caught the Lord by surprise!

  21. “Can God Use My Life?” • Our Personal Characteristics Are No Obstacle to God • The disciples were afraid of Saul. • If you take the time to look at Paul’s life, he didn’t have everything going for him either.

  22. “Can God Use My Life?” 10For some say, “His letters are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive and his speaking amounts to nothing” (2 Cor 10:10).

  23. “Can God Use My Life?” 13 As you know, it was because of an illness that I first preached the gospel to you. 14 Even though my illness was a trial to you, you did not treat me with contempt or scorn. (Gal 4:13-14).

  24. “Can God Use My Life?” • If we get into the business of comparing ourselves with others, then we are in for a rough ride! • God can take what we consider to be a weakness and can use us anyway.

  25. “Can God Use My Life?” • He excels in taking the weak and foolish things and using them in a great way. • Examples • Esther • David • A beggar named Lazarus • Twelve unknown men

  26. “Can God Use My Life?” • It doesn’t matter… • Who you are • Where you came from • What problems you have • What personality quirks you exhibit • What your level of education is • What your level of acceptance by others is

  27. “Can God Use My Life?” • Conclusion • The truth is that God doesn’t need us to be strong and able to stand up on our own two feet. • He needs us to be weak…to be totally dependent upon Him and His power.

  28. “Can God Use My Life?” • God isn’t looking for spiritual powerhouses; He is looking for people who have nothing more than faith and a desire to cling to Jesus. • Are you saved? 18 He got up and was baptized (Acts 9:18).

  29. “Can God Use My Life?” • He did what all those before him had done to be saved. He believed in Christ. He repented of his sins. He confessed his name. He was baptized for the forgiveness of his sins.

  30. “Can God Use My Life?” • Are you fully surrendered? • Are you holding anything back? • Are you available for God to use? • Are you willing to be used by God?
