ExP – Defined • A State-funded instructional program • Beyond the regular school day • Addresses academic needs of low-performing students
Delivery Models • After- school • Before -school • During lunch • Saturday school • Inter-session classes; school breaks • Tutorial programs • Summer School – As funding allows
Essential Components • State certified teaching staff • Teacher to student ratio: • No more than 1-18 • Georgia Performance Standards Instruction • Address academic needs in one or more: • Reading, Language Arts, Math, Science, SS
Student Identification • Specific criteria to consider ~ • Two qualifiers = At Risk/Low Performing • State testing • RTI/SST • easyCBM • Retained • Low class performance • Teacher documentation • Parent Request (as evaluated/approved) • Parent permission must be obtained
Instructional Strategies • Best Practices prevail ! • Direct instruction • Small group • Guided reading • One-on-one • Successmaker/Study Island/Computer support programs • Read 180/System 44/etc. • Coach Book support • Differentiated plans • Technology based instruction • Manipulatives • Homework? Study Hall? - MONITORED/SUPPORTED !
Funding Utilization • No cost to eligible students • Schools receive funding via a pre-determined formula/per pupil • Teachers are paid at rate of $30/hour • May use up to 15% of funds for transportation • Materials/ Snacks – Local funds
Time Sheets/Teacher Pay • Teachers paid on the last day of the month • Time must be recorded in “15 minute” segments • Time sheets must be submitted within 30 days of time worked • Student sign-in and roster must be maintained • School site documentation of “during day” instructional hours/make-up • Keep copies of time sheets • Adhere to payroll time line provided
