  1. Cytogenetics Cytogenetic Analysis for Hematological Malignancies Test Purpose : To help the precise diagnosis, prognosis, treatment guidance, treatment response evaluation and understanding the biology of hematological malignancies. u To elucidate and define the particular genetic subtypes of hematological malignancies. u To find out the recurrent and additional chromosomal rearrangements. u To establish the presence of a malignant clone. u To help the early prediction of clinical transformation and drug resistance in specific hematological malignancies. Karyotyping. Methodology : Testing Procedure : This test includes culture of bone marrow cells, followed by banding and analysis of metaphase cells. Turn Around Time : 14 working days. Specimen Type : Bone marrow. Specimen Volume : 3-4 ml bone marrow in green top heparin tube. Collection instructions : Label the vacutainer with patient’s name and specimen type. Specimen Transport : The specimen should be shipped at 18-25°C, do not freeze. It should reach the lab within 24 hours of collection (preferably at the earliest). In case of delay, sample to be stored on the door shelf of the refrigerator. Complete blood count and bone marrow blast percentage must be provided. Specify detailed clinical history, collection date & time of sample withdrawn on test request form*. Mandatory Requirements :

  2. Highlights of the Test: ¤ Cytogenetic studies are recommended at diagnosis and at regular intervals thereafter for monitoring Minimal Residual Disease (MRD). ¤ Results of metaphase cytogenetic analysis are an important component of the International Prognostic Scoring System (IPSS). ¤ Karyotypes are described as per the International System for Human Cytogenomic Nomenclature (ISCN) 2016 guidelines. ¤ Karyotype with 450-550 bands resolution can detect all numerical and structural chromosomal rearrangements like inversion, deletion, duplication, translocations etc. ¤ Splice variants undetectable by interphase FISH or RT-PCR may be uncovered. ¤ Highly sensitive and specific technique which provides direction for molecular studies of pathogenically important genes. ¤ Karyotype analysis reveals whole genome perspective in a single shot. Note: A repeat sample may be needed in case of culture failure. If further testing is required, additional charges may be incurred. *Samples shall be rejected if above details are not provided.
