  2. UPDATED STANDARD – EN13120 EN13120: Performance requirements including safety for internal blinds. Update to be published in February 2014, specifically concerning child safety. 2 Testing standards; EN16433 – product testing within a blind system and EN16434 – product testing of a safety device. The 2 testing standards are incorporated within EN13120.

  3. UPDATED STANDARD – EN13120 The standard EN13120 is given the force of law by the General Product Safety Regulations which defines our responsibility to supply a safe product and what a safe product is. It is for all internal window blinds. The updates are to protect babies and young children aged 0-42 months. It applies to all public buildings and homes, hospitals, schools, universities, nurseries, hotels, churches, shops, etc… (Not an exhaustive list.)

  4. WHEN IS IT COMING INTO FORCE? The publication date for the EU is 19th February 2014. The publication date in the U.K. is 28th February 2014. All products must be safe from the date the publication states. Volvina will be ready by 1st April 2014.

  5. SAFETY STANDARDS ARE LAW There are serious consequences if Volvina Limited do not comply with the updated standard EN13120. It is the responsibility of everyone associated within our industry to comply. Volvina Limited are committed to only selling a safe product, therefore all of our products will now comply to the child safety requirements of EN13120.

  6. COMPLIANCE 1 3 2 Fitting Height Unknown ??? Max. 1m Max. 2/3rds of drop Max. 1m There are restricted operating cord/chain lengths if the fitting height is unknown: 1. With chain/cord tensioner: Maximum 1m length. 2. With safety chain break: Maximum 2/3rds of the drop of the blind. 3. With pull cord(s): Maximum 1m length. FLOOR

  7. COMPLIANCE 1 3 2 Fitting Height 2.2m from the floor Max. 1m 1.5m 1.5m 0.6m There are restricted operating cord/chain lengths if the fitting height is known: 1. With chain/cord tensioner: Fitted a minimum of 1.5m from the floor. 2. With safety chain break: Fitted a minimum of 0.6m from the floor. 3. With pull cord(s): Fitted a minimum of 1.5m from the floor. FLOOR

  8. COMPLIANCE All cords and chains must be under tension. The distance between the two strands of a loop shall not be more than 50mm at the point of exit from the fixed tensioning device. All internal window blinds must be fitted with warning notices/labels. All internal window blinds must be fitted with a label which can trace the product back to the manufacturer. Volvina Limited must also provide instruction on the safe use of blinds.

These products DO NOT present any hazardous loops or cords. Crank operated, spring operated, motorised or wand operated blinds are all inherently safe options.
