Home and Life The product of our hard labour!! My ‘buddy’ Mook!!
Visit to the waterfall with Home andLife Prepare yourself for an emotional goodbye!!
VTT – planning time Always have water – it is very hot in the VTT!! Boxes with basic lesson ideas/ resources
Games and sports go on during break time – get involved!! Most lesson involve children working in smaller groups and the teaching group taking it in turns to either lead the session or work together in the teaching.
Lesson introductions involve a lot of repeating the English words – silly voices, louder, quieter. Make it fun! Get the team leader involved, if you can!!
Second school Expect an usual school environment – no tables, but potentially wandering bulls!!
You may not be in a standard class room. If we go to this school – watch out for ant nests in this building!! You may not have many resources, but you may have a lot of space – remember this when planning, use the space for active lessons.
Third school Lessons generally follow the same structure in each school.
The last night Dress up time!! And reunited with Home and Life to see their performances!!
Food!! Standard Thai curry – Green and Red are quite hot, Massaman is very mild. ‘English’ food is often available too – BUT chances are if you are going to be ill it will be from English food – 2 people had food poisoning from a chicken burger on my trip, so check it’s cooked!!
McDonalds next door and standard toasties are usually available if your not sure on Thai food. Packed lunch, fruit and water provided at the schools. Bangkok – Pad Thai noodle dish with spring rolls for less than £1. Fried insects for the very adventurous!!
Potential trips Riley beach above, James Bond island below. Phi Phi island above, Elephant trek near Khao Lak. Beware of these guys!! (They WILL take your food!)
Travel Beware when travelling on the ferry to Phi Phi – luggage is all just thrown together – better to keep an eye on it yourself! Long boats to various islands above. Our truck and driver from the VTT below. How many people can fit on a tuk tuk??
Accommodation Inside the hotel in Krabi – all the hotel we stayed at were basic but nice. View from the guest house in Khao Lak (the weather could start like this, then be blazing sunshine 10 mins later!) The most basic accommodation was for the third school on a small island near Krabi.
Final week accommodation A room with 5 beds in Patong for £5 each per night. The hotel on the travellers street Khao San road in Bangkok for £10 each per night.
