  11. The Bucegi Mountains are located in central Romania, south of the city Braşov.The Bucegi is believed to be the Dacian holy mountain Kogainon, on which the God Zalmoxis resided in a cave. At a higher elevation is the Bucegi Plateau, the wind and rain have turned the rocks into spectacular figures such as the Sphinx and Babele.

  28. The Black Tower was built in 1494 on a rock on Starja Hill, near the Blacksmiths' bastion. It has a square shape and it is 9 m high. In 1599 the tower was destroyed by lightning. So, it's got it's name from its walls being blackened by the fire caused by the lightning. Today, it is no longer black.

  32. Sinaia (population: 14,636), is a town and a mountain resort in Prahova County. The town was named after Sinaia Monastery, around which it was built; the monastery in turn is named after the Biblical Mount Sinai. King Carol I of Romania built his summer home, Peleş Castle, near the town.

  34. Sinaia The Sinaia Monastery, was founded by Prince Mihail Cantacuzino in 1695 and named after the great Sinai Monastery on Mount Sinai. Situated in the Prahova Valley, the monastery gave its name to the nearby town of Sinaia.

  35. The monastery consists of two courtyards surrounded by low buildings. In the centre of each courtyard there is a small church built in the Byzantine style. "Biserica Veche" (The Old Church)—dates from 1695, while the more recent "Biserica Mare" (The Great Church) was built in 1846.

  43. Pelişor Castle is a castle in Sinaia, part of the same complex as the larger castle of Peleş. It was built in 1899–1903 by order of King Carol I, as the residence for his nephew and heir, the future King Ferdinand (son of Carol's brother Leopold von Hohenzollern) and Ferdinand's consort Queen Marie.
