YLC Commissions • Purpose: to review current programs and make assessments and recommendations about them. • Women and Minorities in the Profession • Health and Law • Pro Bono • Children and the Law
VSB YLC Circuit Representatives:Your Role • Conduit for YLC programs and information • Participate in and promote YLC programs in your circuit • Represent the YLC at local bar association events
VSB YLC Circuit Representatives: Your Role • Report to your Board Liaisons on a regular basis to inform them of your progress • Create opportunities for cooperation between the YLC and your local bar associations • Attend YLC meetings and conference calls
VSB YLC Circuit Representatives: 2010-2011 Budget • YLC has a total budget of $83,000.00 • Each program has its own budget • Circuit Representatives have a budget of $1,500, with additional $$$ depending on the program • If additional funds are needed, speak with your Board Liaisons
VSB YLC Circuit Representatives:2010-2011 Signature Projects • The YLC’s Legal Handbook for Cancer Survivors • The Handbook was developed in 2009-2010 • The YLC is focused on distribution this year • They Had a Dream Too • Informs high school students about youth participants in the Civil Rights Movement • Entails a 25-minute video and discussion topics
VSB YLC Circuit Representatives:Implement a Program • Recruit volunteers -- the more the merrier • Send a “call for volunteers” to Brian Charville and Maureen Stengel, to post on the VSB YLC website and Facebook page • Ask attorney friends and colleagues to volunteer • Email a “call for volunteers” to your attorney friends and ask them to circulate to their firms and attorney friends • Email a “call for volunteers” to local and specialty bar association list serves and publicize at local bar association meetings • Email a “call for volunteers” to the YLC Board of Governors and ask them to circulate to their firms and attorney friends • If it’s free, publish your “call for volunteers” in bar newsletters

VSB YLC Circuit Representatives: Virginia State Bar Resources • Maureen Stengel and Catherine Huband • Have institutional knowledge of how programs were handled in the past, including past locations and vendors used • Can answer questions on expenditures and reimbursements • Can provide lists of attorneys in your locality, including mailing labels and email addresses • If you need to contract with anyone (i.e. bus service, significant catering), Maureen and Catherine must be involved
