Content • PMBZ Online is a comprehensive biographical dictionary for the Byzantine Empire in the early Medieval Period (641-1025 AD) documenting more than 21,000 persons. • Only online prosopography covering the whole Middle Byzantine Period (641-1025 AD). • Brings sources and modern scholarship from many different publications together on over 21,000 persons. • Documents all persons mentioned either by name or anonymously in the relevant Byzantine and non-Byzantine sources

Content • Combines sources in Greek, Latin, Arabic, and Syriac and information from a wide range of publications. • PMBZ Online enables Byzantinists and historians of the early Middle Ages to study Byzantine society by comparing the biographies. • PMBZ Online allows users to combine searches by name, title/occupation, place, period, sex, clergy/laity, life, works, sources and references which is impossible in the print version. • Offers detailed search functionality.
