The University of New Mexico (UNM) offers a robust Optical Science and Engineering Program, jointly administered by the Physics & Astronomy (P&A) and Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) departments. Established in 1983, UNM is one of just five U.S. universities offering both PhD and MS degrees in optics. With 28 affiliated faculty members and approximately 60 graduate students, the program emphasizes research, culminating in rigorous coursework and thesis or examination requirements. Current trends show a diverse range of courses including optoelectronics, quantum optics, and nonlinear optics.
