  1. Math problem/solution Question: Billy bought a new Xbox for Christmas. The original price was $300.00 , but there was a Christmas sale, so the system was 15 % off! On route to the cash register, the assistant carrying the Xbox, accidently dropped it, so he gave Billy an additional 10% off sale price! after 13% tax find out what was the total Billy paid. Show your work!

  2. What we know… • Original price : $300.00 • Discount: 15% • Additional discount : 10% • ------------------------------------------------------------------------- • We need to find 15% *of* 300.00 • *of* in math is multiplication • NOW DO THE MATH!

  3. 0.15 x 300.00 = 45.00, the discount is $45. since it’s a discount we subtract these prices. 300.00- 45.00 = $255 There was an additional discount off the sale price, so we sort of repeat the steps! 255 is the sale price, we need to find 10% *of* 255 0.10 x 255 = 25.5 We need to subtract these prices again! 255- 25.5 = $229.5, now its time for the taxes…… THE math…..

  4. Final step.. • For taxes we need to find 13% *of* 229.5 0.13x 229.5 = 29.835 Uh oh…. We have a lot of decimal places, money doesn’t have that much decimal places… so we round! 29.835  29.8, because we round to the nearest tenth. 35 can be rounded to 40. but since 40 is below 50 we cant round up the eight. So we just leave it… Now we add since we are dealing with taxes… 229.5 + 29.8 + $ 259.3 Yay you are now a human cash register!
