Module Objectives • Identify effective presentation and facilitation skills appropriate for use in safety situations. • Determine what behaviors related to communication and facilitation skills communicate to an audience. • Recognize advantages/disadvantages of facilitation activities. • Determine challenges and resolutions related to facilitation activities best suited for safety situations.   4. Activity: What Does It Communicate? • Observe facilitator communicating a safety message. • Focus on eye contact. Identify poor and good behaviors.   5. Your Role as a Presenter and Facilitator • Presenter: Relies on lecture to directly provide all necessary information in session. • Facilitator: Manages process of guiding learners through a training experience. Relies on activities. Safety Communication & Training Techniques

Effective Presentation & Facilitation Skills • Practice, practice, practice. • Address learning from various perspectives. • Speak with a strong, clear, and varied voice. • Move with meaning and emphasis. • Observe and actively listen to your participants. Facilitation Activities • Provide learners with skills, knowledge, and experience to meet course goals/objectives • Are integrated with information • Encourage frequent, meaningful interactions and communication • Provide opportunities to monitor whether participants are learning Safety Communication & Training Techniques

  8. Activity: Choosing Facilitation Activities • Review pros and cons of each type facilitation activity. • Identify challenges when leading each type of activity. Also identify resolutions. Identify effective strategies (do and don’t) for handling difficult participants and situations. • If time permits, discuss other challenging situations you may face and how to effectively resolve them.
