Objectives • Establish backbone for intra-Malaysia academic and research traffic • To improve bandwidth availability to member research and education institutions in Malaysia. • To provide linkage amongst all R & E networks between North Asian and Malaysia using the SEA backbone, AI3, TEIN II and other international links.

  4. Objectives • Share resources & platforms for education, research & development activities for research and educational institutions in Malaysia and our overseas partners. • Test bed for new frontiers in education, research & development using information technology that may fit into our country's environment.

  5. Strategic Plan • Phase 1: Providing linkage among all R & E networks amongst research and education institution in Malaysia. • Phase 2: Providing linkage between Malaysia and SEA R & E networks. • Phase 3: Providing linkage between Malaysia, North Asia and South Asia R & E networks • Phase 4: Providing linkage between Malaysia, US and European R & E networks

  6. Strategic Plan • Link & share existing research and education institutions resources for the benefit of collaborative processes (each research and education institution may share other research and education institution education network & bandwidth) • Community building & society empowerment (create discussion platforms for people to interact & share research results)

  7. Time Line • Phase 1 • Complete in June 2004 • Phase 4 • Complete in June 2004 • Phase 2 • Complete in Dec 2004 • Phase 3 • Complete in Dec 2004

  8. Time Line • Priority of connections depends on the readiness of the universities • Each phase is totally independent of each other, which means that all the phases can be commence in parallel.

  9. Phase 1.1 • Setting up MyRNet backbone • Connect Major Universities to the backbone which includes USM, UM, UKM, UPM and UTM. USM UM UPM UKM UTM

  10. Phase 1.2 • Extend the backbone link to Thailand and Singapore • Connect UUM • Connect other R & D organizations and Private Universities such as UNITEN, MMU, UTP, UiTM UUM USM UTP UiTM UNITEN UPM UM UKM MMU UTM

  12. Phase 1.3 (cont) • Fiber connection between East and West (Malaysia) • A permanent connection solution • Satellite Overlay Network will be used as a backup connection

  14. Phase 1.4 (cont) • Setting up a Satellite Backup Network • It is connected USM and UPM as the central route for UNIMAS and UMS to connect to other universities in the West Malaysia • Ability to connect to remote sites, schools and institutions.
