HAHASOWhat can I do if I am being teased • Help • Assert • Humor • Avoid • Self-talk • Own it
Get Help • Get help from an adult or a friend • “I need help” • “Can you help me” • Lets say you are being teased in gym, you could have a friend come over and stand with you against the comments. • “That isn’t cool”
Assert Yourself • Standing up for yourself when someone else teases/bullies you. • I don’t like it when you_______. • It’s mean/unfair and I want you to stop.
I MESSAGE • I feel______________. (Emotions- sad, happy, mad, scared) • When you__________. (What the person did) • I wish you would________.(What you would like them to do instead)
Humor • Use your humor to diffuse the situation. • Green shirt • Walmart/Target • Hair/clown
Avoid • Is where you either stay out of the situation completely or go the other way when you see something about to happen. • Ignore- eyes away, ears away, mouth closed
Self Talk • Is what you say to yourself when someone teases you. • You have a choice about what you think about yourself! • Cool thoughts vs. Hot thoughts • I can believe the tease or think something positive
Cool Thoughts vs. Hot Thoughts • Cool Self-Talk is what you say to yourself that make your problem smaller and easier to deal with. • Hot Self-Talk can make your problem bigger and cause you to act in a way that might have negative consequences.
Own it • If someone says something to you and it’s true, go ahead and say that it is true. • Example- “That shirt is ugly.” Yeah I know, my mom made me wear it.
Practice Time/Questions • Scenario- someone is teasing you in the lunchroom • Scenario- some bigger kids are going to “beat you up” after school • Scenario- a student keeps calling you names by your locker • Scenario- your friend keeps teasing you
