  1. Welcome to the ED LAB!

  2. Reading & Math Lab Class #6

  3. Overview of Lab Class #6 • Reminders • The End of the Semester • Letter to the Parent • Parent Conference • Check-out

  4. Reminders • Lesson Plans in by 12:00noon. • Double check your hours and calendar. • Student work samples? • Math Fair & Author Showcase • Update your Growth Plan • Cleaning up

  5. Author Showcase • Turn in your confirmation slip to let us know which reading session you’re coming to. The confirmation slip will be your whole lesson plan for the day. • Author Showcase is also a good time to set up your parent conference!

  6. Letter to Parent What do I need to do? Write a letter to your student’s parent summarizing your experience and making suggestions for his or her future success. Turn it in 1 to 2 sessions before your last session (which includes your parent conference) for review and editing by Ed Lab staff. Give the parent a copy of the letter at the end of your conference. Turn in a copy of the parent letter at check-out.

  7. Letter to Parent • Thank the parent • Summarize your time together • Make suggestions to continue the learning

  8. Formal Style • Use block style (all justified to left margin) • Use formal grammar, sentence structure and word choice • Limit use of acronyms and clarify educational phrases • Remember that this is a professional document

  9. Parent Conference

  10. Last Session • You must submit a conference day plan to be approved. • That day’s plan will consist of: • a final activity or two with your tutee • a reflection time with your tutee • Time to complete the tutor and tutee surveys • an activity for your tutee to do while you have your parent conference

  11. Parent Conference • All tutors will conduct a conference. • The conference is part of your final tutoring session. • Tutees do not attend the conference. • An Ed Lab instructor will attend the conference. • A sign-up sheet will be posted for tutors to schedule conferences.

  12. Conference Recommendations • Take only 10 or 15 minutes. • Dress professionally. • Make the conference more of a conversation and less of a report. • Have student work ready to share…items that have significance.

  13. The Conference • Thank the parent. • Review focus areas and accomplishments. • Share work samples and give to the parent. • Make recommendations for next steps. • Ask the parent if they have any questions. • Give the parent the letter and survey at the close of the conference.

  14. Check-Out • All tutors are required to check out. • Bring all plans, parent letter and survey forms to check out. • Also make sure you have returned all materials. • The last day tocheck out of the lab is ____________________. (except for those tutoring that day.)

  15. Final Notes… Bring your Learner Growth Plan to Lab Class 7! Confirm Author Showcase reservation with parents. Update Growth Plans.
