The National Solid Waste Management Programme aims to upgrade the Riverton Landfill into a sanitary landfill through IDB funding. Key improvements include enhancing operations, installing new infrastructure such as bridges and scales, and employing modern equipment. The programme also focuses on closing outdated dump sites across Jamaica, implementing new institutional arrangements, and enforcing the National Solid Waste Management Act of 2001. Community initiatives include education, construction of a buffer zone, and composting projects, all designed to improve environmental monitoring and waste management practices.
