INTRODUCTION The National Youth Council (NYC) • State corporation domiciled in the Ministry ofPublic Service, Youth and Gender Affairs • Established upon enactment of the National Youth Policy (NYP) (2007) and the NYC Act (2009). • The Council is a Youth empowerment platform, specifically an advocacy unit on youth issues inKenya • Collaborates with relevant stakeholders in enhancing youth participation andinclusion in all spheres of national development.
THE VISION… Youth Empowerment • Authority or power given to someone to do something. • The process of becoming stronger and more confident, especially in controlling one's life and claiming one's rights.
THE HOW… Empowerment requires an economic and social base; political will; adequate resources and a supportive legal and administrative framework; Structure A platform
NYC ACT, 2009 • Act: (of Parliament) is a law made by parliament; a bill that has passed all three Readings in each House and has received the Presidential assent.
FUNCTIONS/ CURRENT PROGRAMMES Involve youth in decisionmaking and planning Ensure youth Representation / inclusion / participation by facilitating appointment into Boards; committees;
