Academic Calendar • NISD District Education Improvement Council • Development and Recommendation • 2-year cycle to coincide with the end of a regular Legislative session • In compliance with the Texas Education Code 25.0811 • Public Schools cannot begin instruction prior to the fourth Monday in August • Districts cannot request a waiver for the first day of instruction • Sought input • Presented to the PTA council • Online survey for students, staff, parents and community

Academic Calendar • Criteria used to develop calendar options • Educationally best for students • Current holidays • Professional development days • State and District Assessment dates • No student holiday prior to state assessment day • 177 Instructional days - The state requires students to attend 180 days of instruction. However, districts can request a waiver for 5 instructional days to be used for staff development. Currently, Northwest ISD has a waiver for 3 instructional days. • 189 Staff days • 12 Staff Development days • Balance fall and spring semester as much as possible • Compatibility with surrounding school districts
