  4. in a world plagued by conflict,

  5. seek to end violence.

  6. Therefore, we work to: reconcile differences, build bridges, serve needs.

  7. take initiative to build peace on grounds common to us all.

  8. supporting the global peace work of the United Nations and its mandate:

  9. to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war … • to reaffirm faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of men and women and of nations large and small, - Preamble of the UN Charter

  10. to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligations arising from treaties and other sources of international law can be maintained, • to promote social progress and better standards of life in larger freedom, - Preamble of the UN Charter

  11. to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbors, • to unite our strengths to maintain local and international peace and security, - Preamble of the UN Charter

  12. to ensure, by the acceptance of principles and the institution of methods, that armed force shall not be used, save in the common interest, and • to employ international machinery for the promotion of the economic and social advancement of all peoples. - Preamble of the UN Charter

  13. have therefore resolved… …to combine the efforts unique to civil society to accomplish these aims as Ambassadors for Peace of the Universal Peace Federation, and through its principles, projects, programs, councils and peace initiatives.

  15. But how can these dreams be realized? Can they be realized?

  19. Yet, the human spirit seeks beyond material reality for something more... • and dares to hope • work for • and believe in, • the greater good.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights • Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world, • Whereas disregard and contempt for human rights have resulted in barbarous acts which have outraged the conscience of mankind...

  21. People are seeking ways to • come together to understand peace. • work for peace. • advance peace. • diminish the evils of ignorance, greed and self-centeredness that foster violence of all kinds.

  22. Ambassadors for Peace: an alliance of people aligned with core universal principles.

  23. Why Universal Principles? Universal Principles: • are applicable at all times and in all places. • form the basis for universal standards of peaceful behavior.

  24. Universal principles establish the common ground for peaceful cooperation among diverse peoples. Thank you.
