Assembly Bill No. 66, introduced by Assemblymember Al Muratsuchi and supported by the City of Rancho Palos Verdes, addresses the frequent electrical outages in Peninsula cities that have affected residents and businesses financially and created safety concerns. With over 100 unplanned outages reported between 2008 and 2011, and several utility-related fires, this bill mandates electric utilities to report outage frequency and duration to the CPUC and requires cost-effective remediation for the most affected areas. Public disclosure of reliability data is also a key component.
