  2. About me Originally from Calcutta, India, Sreyashi has worked for several years in NGOs and UN agencies in India, Switzerland and the USA. Travelling to places such as Egypt, Kenya and Rwanda has led her to write her second collection of poems: "My soul on a platter", which also reflects the inspiration she draws from her experiences, as well as her ongoing interest in human rights and social issues. This book is an attempt to capture the varied human emotions one experiences in this journey of life, expressed through art and poetry. Some of the poems are inspired from the paintings. She painted these over the years, starting with dabbling with colours, then some geometric shapes, line drawings with ink on black and white paper, finally using oil and acrylic to express emotions with a riot of colours.

  4. « Dreams » Caught unawares, I drift , into a world of dreams This unknown fantasy I dare to dream Where my aspirations reign supreme I will hold on “when the going gets tough” I know it’s not easy and going to be rough Like a caged wild animal Like an incarcerated soul Yet my thoughts are free I dream I dream of change Of a better world Of love and peace Where there will be no breach Where happiness we will preach And songs of love teach 2010 Oil and acrylic 80 x 60 cm When frozen in this eternal bliss All barrenness shall become fertile All diseases cured Fulfilment rest assured In this genesis of life Decay and pain shall meet its nemesis We will all flourish And love will pervade And success shall invade For love knows no boundaries Neither do dreams A conglomeration of ideals A giving heart nestled In a strong body And an intelligent mind To reason with From kingdom of cerebral moments To the world of ‘Utopia’ This is my dream

  5. « Desire » 2010 Oil and acrylic 70 x 50 cm Let my hot passions find its vent in your body Or cool on your passions Let our passions touch each other Madness and desires overcome me Wild fire flowing through the night Let my passionate body rest like a river rests on its shores Take me into your arms and let my lustful passions seek refuge in you Let these passions collide against your body Like waves dashes against the shores Like wetness puts an end to all aridity When the rains touch the parched land And brings relief and calms the restless You put an end to my restless soul Put an end to my sleepless nights When all my raw desires are being wasted Seduced by pain and not passions Emptiness encompasses my body Engulf me in the warmth of your body So that these cold nights under the moon Don’t end in listlessness That these moments of lovemaking lull to sleep Let these colourless dull moments coloured by your passions I want my restlessness to seek refuge in your calmness Put an end to my longing Let the moments of loneliness lead us to a divine union To this spiritual, sexual whole where nothing can divide us To take us into eternity where nothing can break us Where all our longing is gratified And bathed in the holiness of sexual love And blessed by all the gods of hedonism

  6. « Chaos » From a drop of blood To a vortex of violence Whether terror strikes in Bombay Or Maoists and naxals attack From Kashmir to Godhra Innocent lives killed in the name of: Divided states, divided strengths, divided religion. What goes on? Rape, murder, pillage Yet believers going on pilgrimage To pray, But to whom? A silent spectator? That which they call “God”? What “God” is there? What belief? Who do we worship? Where there is a celebration of death? Not of life! Who do we trust? When our faith in humanity shaken? 2010 Oil and acrylic 60 x 50 cm Those sins cannot be condoned Those hypocrites Cannot be bathed in the Holy Ganga Our Holy river polluted by crime and corruption With the death of emotions and mental eruptions Contributing and compromising with one’s soul For the sake of livelihood Feed the mind and soul Feed the body with love Feed not with hatred Power and Politics are a game Mere pawns without shame Where Hegemony and Patriarchy reign supreme India booming in technology Those who claim to have Cleansed souls and minds How? But putrid hearts For this cankers and devours peace Disrupted peace of mind Scattered happiness Fractured trust Fight, the evil within, if you must

  7. « Lotus » Inspired by Monet’s waterlillies. This was a natural reaction to Angkor Wat’s lotuses from Cambodia. Clear influence of Impressionism. This is inspired by the eros which means life and motion. 2010 Oil and acrylic 70 x 50 cm

  8. « Masai » To Africa African Sky African sunset -My Soul On a Platter Sreyashi Ghosh 2010 Oil and acrylic 60 x 45 cm

  9. The DeathSeries Death of feelings My feelings have been cut And helmed on the edges I am in control now I am striving To cut back on those “extra” emotions I am no longer propounding In fact at every step I am myself astounding Damned to be confounding A bludgeoning A blunt statement All put across succinctly They were meant to be embedded deeply He was never meant to stay I wish him well, I pray They say I am blessed with compassion Since when have these endowments been treasures? To me they are a burden The death of all those emotions All so sudden!

  10. Alone My ears yearn for a human voice My heart cries for another soul My body aches for someone’s touch My hand wants to reach for someone else’s

  11. Rwanda Massacre of innocent people Lives and hearts divided Death and blood Macabre dance of death All weapons befriended All friends become foes Children burnt alive Women raped and killed Human lives tortured Human beings turn to devils Taking lives Now freed from hate But willing to make peace This is a new world Though weather beaten The survivors stand up They fight back With the beauty of love With the beauty of shared togetherness In this world of peace We the dreamers stand in solidarity
