  1. Hey You! Yeah You! Give me a hand, will ya!? All area High School students are invited to prepare and submit projects! “Inventions and Interventions” Environmental Expo 2009March 21, 2009 10am-2pm • Projects will be displayed and judged on March 21, 2009 at Doane College’s Lied Science Building, from 10am to 2pm. • Winner(s) will be awarded a cash prize, and entered into consideration for the Presidential Environmental Youth Award • Categories for projects: Art, Science, Agriculture, Social Science. • Criteria for judging will include Community Input, Local Relevance, Potential for Impact, and weblog participation. More details and Entry forms are available at: http://www.phsneb.org/health_planning/EnviroExpoMain.html Email or fax completed form no later than 1/30/09. Instruction packets will be sent after entry form is received. District Health Department

  2. “Inventions and Interventions” Environmental Expo 2009March 21, 2009 Doane College professors and Health Department staff can present to your class in the month of January (to explain rules, help with project ideas). Call now to schedule a visit! • Turn waste materials into a functional art piece • Document the health status of a local stream • Create and test a program that encourages organic farming • Document land use changes and their impacts in your community over time • Design and test a versatile compost system for individuals • Develop a web-based environmental education program • Create a local land use planning map that incorporates sustainable development/design principles • Document local changes expected as a result of global climate change. • Develop a proposal to alter a building or community to make it more environmentally sustainable (include economic factors) • Create a system to reduce the waste from your school’s science labs • Develop a community vegetable garden program • Create a photo-story documenting a local environmental issue (include a plan to get the story out)
