The Listening and Changing Project, funded by NAI/DFI Genio in 2011, aimed to enhance organizational planning through Person-Centered Consultation. Engaging six DFI member organizations, including SBHI and the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, this pilot initiative facilitated a process where members were central to decision-making. The project developed three training modules, establishing a framework for strategic planning that prioritizes member involvement and reflects shared values. Discover how this transformative approach can benefit disability organizations, leading to self-directed supports and services.

Where did Listening and Changing come from? • NAI/DFI Genio funded project in 2011 • It involved doing Person Centred Consultation with 6 DFI Member Organisations – SBHI, Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Headway, WLCIL, Gilbert Centre, Cork CIL • The pilot also included the development of 3 training modules
DFI Model of Person Centred Consultation • Person Centered Consultation describes a process where an organisation does its planning with and for its members, and where members are at the centre of, and are the reason for, its existence • An approach – informed by values – a practice • Way of consulting • First step in the strategic planning process • Not the same as person centred planning
It involves… • A Core Team that includes a Board member, key staff, representation from user, DFI facilitator
Users are involved at every stage of the process…. Must lead back to the strategic planning of the organisation
That might mean… • Self Directed Supports and Services • Member or user led services
Some examples now… • Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland • Alzheimer Society of Ireland • Headway (Cork) More information on how to get involved, access training or download the resource pack from www.disability-federation.ie or from your local support officer
