Aims of New Maths Curriculum Ensure that all pupils • Become fluent in the fundamentals of Maths – develop understanding and the ability to apply knowledge • Reason mathematically – using mathematical language • Can solve problems – applying their Maths to a variety of problems/breaking down problems into a series of simpler steps/persevering and seeking solutions

  6. Summary of Key Changes • Calculators – only to be introduced in KS2 if pupils are secure in calculations • Probability not present • Roman numerals from Y3 • Counting beyond whole numbers across school, eg. decimals and fractions • Multiplication tables increased to 12x12

  7. Summary of Key Changes • More reference to the interpretation of data, rather than the collection of data • Column addition and subtraction from Y3 • More complex measurement of area and volume • Abstract symbols from Y1 • Algebra has greater emphasis
