  1. Vinyl Windows Though the original wood sash windows are often among the most striking details, they tend to be one of the first to be removed. The vinyl windows on this house at least blend in.

  2. Replacement Doors “This is a Home Depot door; This house that you just put that on is from 1902. You got to get rid of that door. I will tell them these things. Because they need to learn.” -- Barrie Schuster

  3. Painted Stone The hallmark of Craftsman architecture is the use of real materials, honestly crafted. Wood and stone are displayed for their natural beauty. Alternately stone can be painted to resemble marshmallow topping.

  4. Painted Stone The painter of these stone piers apparently realized they were making a terrible mistake after completing two of three sides.

  5. Paint Schemes Some historically appropriate colors can seem strange to contemporary eyes. Luckily, some totally inappropriate schemes look odd too.

  6. Additions Though there are many buildings in the neighborhood which have incongruent additions, the strangest is Silver Peak Restaurant &Brewery. If you look right in the middle (where the chimney is) you can still see a sliver of one of the oldest houses in the area.
