Simple Harmonic Motion • Pendulums and Springs are very similar. • They repeat the same cycle of motion over and over and over. • This is called Simple Harmonic Motion
Amplitude = Displacement • Amplitude: How far away from the equilibrium position the pendulum swings.
Period • Period: The amount of time needed for the pendulum to complete one full cycle. A B From ‘A’ to ‘B’ & back to ‘A’ again
Period • For a pendulum the formula for Period is: L= pendulum length • To find frequency (the number of cycles per second) (Hz):
