  1. Lesson 11 Belief in the Messengers and Prophets

  2. • Allah has selected prophets for guiding people in every era and every place

  3. • Some of the prophets are messengers sent by Allah to proclaim His Messages and Books.

  4. The Qur’an mentioned twenty five prophets, first of whom is Adam and the last is Muhammad.

  5. Among the prophets there are messengers endowed with resolve: Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad.

  6. Allah supported His messengers with tangible miracles, while the continuous great miracle of Islam is the Holy Qur’an

  7. The prophets are infallible in their morality and truthfulness in conveying the propagation. They are of different ranks, but the best of them is the Seal of Messengers.

  8. Prophethood and the holy message were terminated with the advent of Prophet Muhammad; all those who claim other than that are liars and renegades of the faith of Islam, e.g. the followers of Baha’ism and Qadianism.

  9. The essence of all messages is one, i.e., Islam (submission to Allah).

  10. Islam is the religion of instinct.

  11. All messengers regarded each other as true in their propagation. Moses and Jesus gave the good tidings of Muhammad’s propagation.

  12. Belief in all prophets without exception is a pillar of faith.

  13.  Belief in Muhammad’s Prophethood is half of the Islamic creed “There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah, and Muhammad is the Pro phet of Allah”.

  14. Proofs on the Lesson from Qur’an and Sunnah

  15. The Prophets have been sent to all nations: Allah says: 

  16. This means: “Verily! We have sent you with the truth, a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner. And there never was a nation but a warner had passed among them.” (35, Fatir: 24)

  17. Allah says: 

  18. This means: “And for every Ummah (a community or a nation), there is a Messenger; when their Messenger comes, the matter will be judged between them with justice, and they will not be wronged.” (10, Yunus: 47)

  19. Allah says: 

  20. This means: “And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): "Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Taghut (all false deities, etc. i.e. do not worship Taghut besides Allah).” (16, An-Nahl: 36)

  22. This means: “And Messengers We have mentioned to you before, and Messengers We have not mentioned to you, - and to Musa (Moses) Allah spoke directly. Messengers as bearers of good news as well as of warning in order that mankind should have no plea against Allah after the Messengers. And Allah is Ever AllPowerful, AllWise. (4, An-Nisa’: 164 - 165)

  23. Allah says: 

  24. This means: “And We never punish until We have sent a Messenger (to give warning).” (17, Al-Isra’: 15)

  25. Prophets Mentioned in the Qur’an Allah says: 

  26. This means: “Allah chose Adam, Nuh (Noah), the family of Ibrahim (Abraham) and the family of 'Imran above the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns) (of their times).” (Surah Al-`Imran: 33)

  28. This means: “ And that was Our Proof which We gave Ibrahim (Abraham) against his people. We raise whom We will in degrees. Certainly your Lord is AllWise, AllKnowing. And We bestowed upon him Is-haq (Isaac) and Ya'qub (Jacob), each of them We guided, and before him, We guided Nuh (Noah), and among his progeny Dawud (David), Sulayman (Solomon), Ayub (Job), Yusuf (Joseph), Musa (Moses), and Harun (Aaron). Thus do We reward the gooddoers.

  29. And Zakariyya (Zachariya), and Yahya (John) and 'Isa (Jesus) and Iliyas (Elias), each one of them was of the righteous. And Isma'il (Ishmael) and Al-Yas'a (Elisha), and Yunus (Jonah) and Lout (Lot), and each one of them We preferred above the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns) (of their times). And also some of their fathers and their progeny and their brethren, We chose them, and We guided them to a Straight Path.” (Surah Al-An`am: 83 - 87)

  31. This means: “And to 'Ad (people, We sent) their brother Hud. …” (Surah Al-A`raf: 65 - 66)

  33. This means: “And to Thamud (people, We sent) their brother Salih (Saleh). …” (Surah Al-A`raf: 73)

  35. This means: “And (remember) Lout (Lot), when he said to his people: "Do you commit the worst sin such as none preceding you has committed in the 'Alamin (mankind and jinns)? …” (Surah Al-A`raf: 80-81)

  37. This means: “And to (the people of) Madyan (Midian), (We sent) their brother Shu'ayb. …” (Al-A`raf: 85)

  39. The verse means: “Then after them We sent Musa (Moses) with Our Signs to Fir'awn (Pharaoh) and his chiefs, …” (Surah Al-A`raf: 103)

  41. This means: “And has there come to you the story of Musa (Moses)? …” (Surah Taha: 9 - 98)

  43. This means: “And (remember) Ayub (Job), when he cried to his Lord: "Verily, distress has seized me, and You are the Most Merciful of all those who show mercy.'' So We answered his call, and We removed the distress that was on him, and We restored his family to him (that he had lost), and the like thereof along with them, as a mercy from Ourselves and a Reminder for all who worship Us.” (Surah Al-Anbiya’: 83 - 84)

  44. And says: 

  45. This means: “And (remember) Isma'il (Ishmael), and Idris (Enoch) and Dhul-Kifl (Isaiah).” (Surah Al-Anbiya’: 85 - 86)

  46. Also the verses: 

  47. Meaning: “And (remember) Dhan-Nun (Jonah), when he went off in anger, and imagined that We shall not punish him …” (21, Al-Anbiya’: 87 - 88)

  49. This means: “And (remember) Zakariyya (Zachariah), when he cried to his Lord: "O My Lord! Leave me not single (childless), though You are the Best of the inheritors. So We answered his call, and We bestowed upon him Yahya (John), and cured his wife (to bear a child) for him. Verily, they used to hasten on to do good deeds, and they used to call on Us with hope and fear, and used to humble themselves before Us.

  50. And (remember) she who guarded her chastity [Virgin Maryam (Mary)], We breathed into (the sleeves of) her (shirt or garment) [through Our Ruh Jibrael (Gabriel)], and We made her and her son ['Isa (Jesus)] a sign for Al-'Alamin (the mankind and jinns). Truly! This, your Ummah [Shari`ah or religion (Islamic Monotheism)] is one religion, and I am your Lord, therefore worship Me (Alone).” (Surah Al-Anbiya’: 89 - 92)
