  1. One night, when Jared was very little, he had a terrible dream - in fact, it was a nightmare.

  2. In his dream, the teeny-tiny buttons on his pajamas grew to an enormous size and he fell, head first, into one of the holes.

  3. When he awoke from his bad dream, he decided that he would never wear buttons again. From that day on, he wore t-shirts.

  4. One day, when Jared was four, his mother announced at breakfast that the whole family was invited to his cousin’s wedding.

  5. She said, “Jared, you are so lucky. You will get to wear a fancy, new shirt with buttons.”

  6. Remembering his horrible dream, Jared hollered, “I HATE BUTTONS!!”

  7. Jared’s mother tried to convince him that buttons were not scary. Jared still screamed, “I HATE BUTTONS!!”

  8. As the wedding came closer, Jared’s mom decided to try some dress shirts that didn’t have buttons

  9. On Monday, she brought home a dress shirt with a zipper. But when she zipped up the zipper, she went too high and pinched Jared’s chin. Jared cried, “I HATE ZIPPERS

  10. On Tuesday, Jared’s dad brought home a dress shirt with velcro. But when Jared undid the shirt, the noise was too loud and Jared yelled, “I HATE VELCRO!!”

  11. On Wednesday, Jared’s nana brought him a dress shirt that fastened with safety pins. When his nana pinned his shirt, She accidentally poked him in the chest. “OUCH!!” shouted Jared, ‘I HATE SAFETY PINS!!”

  12. On Thursday, Jared’s papa brought him a dress shirt with strings attached. But when all the strings were tied up, Jared couldn’t breathe. He gasped, “I HATE STRINGS”.

  13. On Friday morning, the neighbour rushed over with a dress shirt and did it up with clothes pins.

  14. Unfortunately, Jared’s mom thought he was clean laundry and she hung him on the clothesline to dry. The whole neighbourhood heard Jared when he shrieked, “I HATE CLOTHES PINS!!”

  15. So, on Friday afternoon, Jared’s sister, Taylor, decided that she would solve the problem. She used her dad’s duct tape from the workshop to fasten a buttonless dress shirt.

  16. Jared was fine with this idea, until it was time for bed and no one could get the duct tape off! Hours later, when Jared’s father cut off the shirt, Jared hollered, at the top of his lungs, “I HATE DUCT TAPE!!”

  17. The day of the wedding was finally here. Jared needed to get dressed.

  18. So, he quietly snuck into his closet and pulled out a dress shirt.

  19. To his family’s surprise, it was not the shirt with zippers. It was not the shirt with velcro. It was not the shirt with safety pins.

  20. It was not the shirt with strings. It was not the shirt with clothes pins. It was not the shirt with duct tape. Jared was wearing his dress shirt with buttons.

  21. The whole dress shirt dilemma made Jared realize that buttons were not so bad after all.

  22. Jared looked very handsome on the day of the wedding and if you got close enough, you could hear him say, “I love buttons.” THE END

  23. The DRESS SHIRT DELEMA is about Jared Colangeli. Jared is four years old and refuses to wear shirts with buttons. Jared’s mom had a real problem when her family was invited to a fancy wedding and Jared refused to wear a dress shirt. His mom’s grade 2/3 at John Marshall School wrote and illustrated this story about Jared. The story was written BEFORE the wedding. Although Jared LOVED the story, he did NOT wear a buttoned shirt to the wedding. He wore a “fancy t-shirt”.
