  1. whatchagonna do? Daniel 2:1-23

  2. Romans 13:11 – This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.

  3. Hebrews 2:14-15 – Because God's children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could He die, and only by dying could He break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. 15 Only in this way could He set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.

  4. 1. The devil is a defeated foe.

  5. 2. Jesus set us free from the fear of death.

  6. 3. You have been adopted by the Father. Hebrews 2:11 – So now Jesus and the ones He makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them His brothers and sisters.

  7. Context of Daniel 2 • Daniel is in his late teens. • Written 2,600 years ago (c. 600 BC)

  8. History = His-story

  9. Daniel 2:1-3 – One night during the second year of his reign, Nebuchadnezzar had such disturbing dreams that he couldn't sleep. 2 He called in his magicians, enchanters, sorcerers, and astrologers, and he demanded that they tell him what he had dreamed. As they stood before the king, 3 he said, "I have had a dream that deeply troubles me, and I must know what it means."

  10. Daniel 2:5-6 – But the king said to the astrologers, "I am serious about this. If you don't tell me what my dream was and what it means, you will be torn limb from limb, and your houses will be turned into heaps of rubble! 6 But if you tell me what I dreamed and what the dream means, I will give you many wonderful gifts and honors. Just tell me the dream and what it means!"

  11. Daniel 2:14-15 – When Arioch, the commander of the king's guard, came to kill them, Daniel handled the situation with wisdom and discretion.

  12. 3 Recent Examples • Israeli Air Force strikes within Syria • Al-Qaeda’s Recent Threat • Flu Outbreak

  13. 4 Facts • Our foe, the devil, has been defeated. • Jesus has set us free from the slavery to death. • We’ve been adopted by our Father. • Psalm 91 – confess the Promises of God’s Word

  14. Psalm 91:1-13 – Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him. 3 For He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. 4 He will cover you with His feathers. He will shelter you with His wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.

  15. 5 Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. 6 Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. 7 Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you. 8 Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished. 9 If you make the Lord your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter,

  16. 10 no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. 11 For He will order His angels to protect you wherever you go. 12 They will hold you up with their hands so you won't even hurt your foot on a stone. 13 You will trample upon lions and cobras . . .

  17. C. B. Morelock: I have personally been told by Navy men who picked up those particular survivors from Dunkirk, that the men not only recited Psalm 91, but they shouted it at the top of their lungs!

  18. 17 Then Daniel went home and told his friends Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah what had happened. 18 He urged them to ask the God of heaven to show them His mercy by telling them the secret, so they would not be executed along with the other wise men of Babylon.

  19. 19 That night the secret was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel praised the God of heaven. 20 He said, "Praise the name of God forever and ever, for He has all wisdom and power.

  20. Luke 17:15-19 – One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, "Praise God!" 16 He fell to the ground at Jesus' feet, thanking Him for what He had done. This man was a Samaritan. 17 Jesus asked, "Didn't I heal ten men? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?" 19 And Jesus said to the man, "Stand up and go. Your faith has healed you."

  21. A grateful, thankful heart is perhaps the most distinctive mark of a follower of Jesus Christ.

  22. 21 He controls the course of world events; He removes kings and sets up other kings. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the scholars. Daniel 2:21a – He changes the seasons and guides history . . . (MSG)

  23. 22 He reveals deep and mysterious things and knows what lies hidden in darkness, though He is surrounded by light. James 1:17 – Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow.

  24. 23 I thank and praise You, God of my ancestors, for You have given me wisdom and strength. You have told me what we asked of You and revealed to us what the king demanded."

  25. Conclusion WhatchaGonna Do? Philippians 4:4-6 – Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It is wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life. (MSG)
