What does this subject involve? • Digital Media is the creative use of digital technologies. • It is a fast-moving and exciting industry, spanning a diverse range of design disciplines and dynamic subject areas. • Fuelled by the advance of digital technologies and the expanding telecommunications and entertainment sectors. • A discipline which which spans art, design and computing. • Digital Media combines creativity and innovation and is focussed on the commercial context of design. Role & Responsibilities • Use industry standard applications and equipment. • Require a thorough understanding of design principles. • Involved in the creation interactive products including CD-ROMs, websites, animations and computer games. • The new media industries are thought to be worth £15bn to the British economy, with the computer games industry now out-selling CD music sales world wide. • Consequently, there is great demand for designers who can work effectively across new media. Digital Media @ Grays School of Art Digital Media Course Information • The Course is designed to enable the student to develop a skill set which spans design and computing. • Issues of design culture and context are examined through lectures and seminars, with study trips to, and visits from, leading designers and companies. • The course also incorporates an international exchange programme with other institutions in Europe. • Study Options: Full Time Duration 4 years. • Underpinning the curriculum is an internationally recognised research base. Digital Media @ Grays School of Art Digital Media Course Information • Staff have served as consultants to the Design Council and government departments, written books on design for industry and have designed products for blue chip companies. • There is a strong emphasis on design theory and methods, visualisation and communication, user focused problem solving and the use of digital technologies. • The use of integrated projects, is fundamental to the Course, encouraging students to avoid compartmentalised thinking and provides a practical focus and context for the delivery of subjects including interface design & motion graphics, digital video & audio production, animation, 3D computer modelling, special effects, web and computer games design.
