  2. 1.1 Theology • Believe in a Goddess and God • Pantheism • Duo theism • Polytheism • Other theological viewpoints. Example: Monotheism • is an idea that there is only one deity, and not two. • Some Wiccans are agnostics/atheists – therefore not believing in any deity.

  3. 1.1 Theology • Goddess and Horned God complementary polarities – they balance each other out. • Has been compared to yin and yang. • Believers differ from each other • The Goddess is viewed differently throughout believers. • Mother Earth, and sometimes the Moon, in which case the Horned God would be the Sun. • The Horned God is associated with sexuality, wilderness, nature, hunting as well as the life cycle.

  4. 1.1 Theology • The Goddess is mostly known as the Triple Goddess. • The Triple Goddess has different forms to different believers. • It could also symbolize a stage in a woman’s life cycle.

  5. 1.2 Afterlife • Belief in the afterlife will vary among Wiccans. • Reincarnation is most widely known with Wiccans. • High Priest Raymond Buckland said that a “human’s soul reincarnates into the same species over many lives to learn lessons, and advance spirituality.” • Many Wiccans believe in reincarnation [of the soul] through different species. • A popular saying among Wiccans is “once a witch, always a witch.”

  6. 1.2 Afterlife • Wiccan’s who believe in reincarnation [typically] believe that the soul rests in the Otherworld, or Summerland • Wiccans believe in the ability to communicate with the dead using Ouija boards. • High Priest Alex Sanders once said, “they are dead, leave them in peace.” • Wiccans do not put a lot of focus on the afterlife

  7. 1.3 Magic • They believe in magic. • Many Wiccans believe magic to be a law of nature.

  8. 1.3 Magic • Five senses. • Wiccans cast spells during rituals. • Common spells are used for healing, protection, fertility or even to banish negative influences. • Some Wiccans contrast their magic, calling it White or Black magic.

  9. 1.4 Morality • There is no moral or ethical code in the Wiccan religion. • However, many follow a code known as the “Wiccan Rede” • Another element of Wiccan morality would be the “Law of Threefold Return.” • They seek to cultivate eight virtues. • They are mirth, reverence, honour, humility, strength, beauty, power, and lastly compassion.

  10. 1.5 The Five Elements • The five elements are Fire, Water, Earth, Air and Aether. (Spirit) • Aether unites them all. • They are all [normally] associated with a cardinal point.
