  2. Simple Libertarianism An event is undeterminediff the past, together with the laws of nature, does not determine whether or not it will occur. Libertarianism: There are some undetermined events. Simple Libertarianism: (i) Some (human) actions are undetermined and (ii) an action is free iff it is undetermined.

  3. Volitional Libertarianism Volitional Libertarianism: (i) Some (human) actions are undetermined and (ii) an action is free iff it is an undetermined choice (or caused by an undetermined choice).

  4. Rational Libertarianism • Rational Libertarianism: (i) Some (human) actions are undetermined and (ii) an action is free iff it is an undetermined choice that results from a deliberative process (or it is caused by such a choice).

  5. The Libertarian Dilemma • Libertarianism: Determinism is false (and an action is free only if it is undetermined). • The Control Principle: An action is free only if it’s up to the agent. • The Libertarian Dilemma: How can an action be undetermined when it’s determined by the agent?
