  3. Research Question “For students at SLCC, is their GPA related to the number of hours they work in a week?”

  4. Data Collection Plan Sample size: 100 • We randomly chose the number between 1 and 100 (our sample size) to be number 2 as our starting place. Our sampling interval (k) was 4. So after the initial 2nd student was selected, every 4th student afterwards was chosen. • In order to keep the results as accurate as possible, we sampled 25 students from three SLCC locations: Jordan, South City, Taylorsville and our fourth group was a sample of 25 online students. • For the Internet data collection, we assumed we are all taking at least one online class, so we began with our Stats class; alphabetized the students, then sent a message to every 4th student with our questions. We used our other online classes from this semester to reach our 25 respondent quota. • Our surveyor asked the following questions to obtain the data: • Are you currently a student at SLCC? • Do you work? If yes, on average, how many hours per week do you work? • What is your current GPA?

Y RESULTS CONCLUSION • The data on the histogram does not demonstrate a uniform distribution. • The data on the scatter plot does not display a good linear relationship. • linear correlation coefficient= 0.0362 • Using the properties of the linear correlation coefficient we know that the closer r is to zero then little or no evidence exists of a linear relationship between the two variables. Since r is 0.0362, which is close to zero, this shows a very weak positive correlation. • Based on the data compilation we determined that the amount of hours worked in a week does not have a noticeable impact on GPA for students at SLCC.
