  1. Kindergarten Orientation Important things every parent needs to know for the kindergarten year!

  2. Student Drop Off Students can be dropped off in the foyer in front of the gym. They will be supervised in the gym until 8:30. At that time they will be escorted to their classroom. Afternoon students will wait in the hallway by the classroom with the bus drivers until the teacher picks them up. Afternoon kindergarten will begin at 12:15 and dismiss with the school at 3:35.

  3. Student Pick Up Students may be picked up in the front foyer by the gym at approximately 12:15. Afternoon students may be picked up in the gym at 3:35. Parents or others listed on the emergency cards must sign the student out with the teacher. If anyone else is to pick up the child please send in a note stating who is coming. They must have identification. Anyone picking up a student must be at least 16 years old.

  4. School Times Kindergarten is a half day program. The morning class will begin at the same time as the school which is 8:50. Dismissal will be at 12:15. Afternoon kindergarten begins at 12:00 and dismisses at 3:35 with the school.

  5. Name Tags In your folder you are receiving a name tag, which is a necklace. It needs to be worn by your child throughout the first full week of school. This will help insure that your child will be dropped off at the correct place and allow us as well as others in school to guide your child around the building during this time.

  6. Breakfast and Lunch Information Only morning kindergarten students may purchase breakfast in the cafeteria. To do so they must be at school by 8:30 and have money in their account. Breakfast will cost $1.00. Money for the cafeteria may be sent in daily, weekly or monthly. For kindergarten students it is best to use the automated pay system called Mealpay Plus that is available. If you wish to send in money please be sure it is in an envelope with your child’s name on it as well as mine.

  7. Lunch Cost Student’s breakfast will cost $1.00. Student’s lunch will cost $1.75. Adult’s will cost $2.50 If your child packs his/her lunch and needs to buy a milk or orange juice it is possible. Juice and milk cost 35 cents each.

  11. Homework Kindergarten students will receive a homework packet on Monday and it should be returned by Friday. It may be turned in at any time during the week, whenever it is completed. I will not send home any homework packets until sometime in September. Parents are asked to help their child if they need it. Homework should take no longer then 15 minutes daily. I do send home a monthly LAP reading program to encourage you to read to your child each night.

  12. Field Trips Kindergarten will be going on two or three field trips this year. We usually go to Benton Farms in October and the Zoo in April. You are welcome to go with us on these excursions. We will send home information as soon as the field trips are scheduled. However, you must be on the approved chaperone list. If you or other family members that wish to volunteer or chaperone field trips have not completed a Youth Leader Request form please go to the schools website and turn it in as soon as possible.

  13. Volunteers Volunteers are always welcome. Once again, however, you must be on the approved chaperone list and sign in at the office when you arrive. We have lots of activities that take time to prepare. If you are interested in helping in the classroom please complete the form in the Information Packet and return it. I will contact you in a few weeks to set up a time for you to come in.

  14. Kindergarten Celebrations In the kindergarten class we celebrate many days and events, such as, Halloween, Christmas, Easter, etc. We often have class parties or programs. We also celebrate Grandparent’s Day which will be our first major event. Grandparents are invited to come to school and visit with their grandchild. More information will be coming home soon. We will need your help and support in making these events successful.

  15. Snacks for Parties Due to allergies all snacks must be store bought with the labels attached. Also, because of the new flooring no cupcakes or cakes with icing may be sent in. Cookies or Little Debbie cakes will work best.

  16. Any Questions or Concerns? If you have any questions or concerns please contact me by calling the school and leaving a message or emailing me. I will get in touch with you as soon as possible. Often I am busy with the students until after school so it may be at the end of the day. My email address is Darlene.Smith@wv.kyschools.us

  17. Before You Leave Please check the address listed on your child’s name tag and let Ms. Nancy or myself know if any of the information is incorrect. We will want to fix it before you leave.
