Presentation Transcript
User Community Area • Grid WG • Education WG • Manufacturing WG • Youth WG
Grid WG • Kento Aida TITECH, Sissades Tongsima NECTEC • Full day pre-conf workshop, 14 presentations, 40 participants
Grid wg • Role of grid wg, • Interface b/n APAN and apgrid/pragma/apec-tel • Apgrid is testbed, and very new • Pragma is application focussed, and very new • Apec-tel is policy/information focussed • APGrid is maturing, and may yet take it all on – until then we need gridwg • Gridwg is neutral • Gridwg identifies network technologies required • Gridwg talks with user community/natural resources areas on their grid needs. • Gridwg works towards standard grid, not application specific grids • Provides the clearest focus for international collaboration
Grid wg • Benefit for APAN • Expand user communities, expand bandwidth requirements, use existing bandwidth most effectively • does APAN need it, and in User Community Area? (yes – middleware, not network technology) • Coordinate with NR and UC groups on Grid activities and demoes
Education • Pre-conf workshop • Chair: An Jie, Tan Hock Soon • (comment from elsewhere – not well integrated into conference) • 10 speakers – overview of activities in the region • Identify Objectives of DE, key initiation points, applications, technology enablers (above network layer) and standards. • Identify key contacts in countries • Take on coordination/promotion • Web site regularly updated • Have joint sessions with other areas (NR, Grid, Technology) at future meetings. • Require assistance from technology area on connectivity and services for collaborators (how does a site access APAN?)
Manufacturing • Chair: Tan Kim Cheng • VEMAT project ongoing – TP and HK, interest from Tsinghua Uni, CN • Working on remote instrument access • More Education focussed – propose to merge with Edu-WG
NEW: Youth WG • PROPOSAL at this stage • Charter to be finalised • Support/promote use of APAN and similar networks from Youth perspective • Interface to other youth organisations in APAN • Increase use of bandwidth • P2P and Entertainment??
