Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen, frequently referred to as PCNA, is a protein that acts as a processivity element for DNA polymerase in eukaryotic cells. It achieves this processivity by encircling the DNA, thus creating a topological connect to the genome. PCNA was initially recognized being an antigen that is indicated in the nuclei of cells throughout the DNA synthesis phase of the mobile cycle.
