  3. Daily Schedule Monday, Wednesday, Friday • 12:30-12:55 Lunch • 12:55-1:20 recess • 1:20-2:05 Specials Tuesday Double Special • 11:50-12:35 Specials #1 • 12:35-1:00 lunch • 1:00-1:45 Specials #2 Thursday-NO Special • 12:30-1:00 lunch • 1:00-1:25 recess

  4. Morning Meeting • A time to bring the entire class together immediately morning announcements. • Sets the tone for a respectful learning environment. • Establishes a climate of trust between students and classroom teacher. • Merges social, emotional, and intellectual learning.

  5. Volunteer Sign-up • All continuing volunteers approved for the 2013-2014 school year MUST reactivate as a volunteer. • Volunteer system is open daily at our media center during school hours (8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.) and register through the intranet: WCPSS intranet-business applications-volunteer registration.

  6. School/Home Communication • The agenda will come home daily, so please check and initial daily. • Please check our weebly for updates and information. • http://bces5.weebly.com

Standards Based Grading • Level • 4 • Extends targeted grade level standards • “Since I can do/get this, I can figure out new things!” • Level • 3 • Demonstrates proficiency of targeted grade level standards. • “I get it!” “ I can do it well!” • Level • 2 • Needs support to meet targeted grade level standards. • “I almost get it but I need help.” • Level • 1 • Insufficient performance of targeted grade level standards. • “I don’t get it yet. I need help.” • “P” • This work is not being assessed. I am practicing a new skill.

  14. Homework Guidelines Homework includes, but is not limited to • Reading-reading logs (minimum of 30 minutes), fluency passage, book clubs, responding to reading • Writing-What’s Up Wednesday (Every Wednesday) • Math-nightly • Social studies/Science (as needed)

  15. Conferences • Conferences are mandated by Wake County for Quarter 1, and Quarter 3. • Student Led Conferences-Quarter 3

  16. Attendance: Arrival & Dismissal • Visit “Bell Schedule” under the “About Us” tab on the Brier Creek Webpage. • Announcements begin at 9:05am each day. • Tardy bell rings at 9:15pm each day. Your child must be unpacked and in their space by 9:15 in order to not be marked tardy. • Students cannot be checked out of front office past 3:15pm. • Dismissal begins at 3:45pm. • If your child is absent, please write or email an excuse with their name, the date, and the reason for the absence. Absences are excused under Wake County guidelines. • If your child is going on a trip, or has an upcoming planned absence, please notify me as soon as possible.

  18. Benchmark Assessments • Case 21 provides benchmark testing for BCES in grades 2-5 to better prepare them for EOG testing. • Data teachers receive is excellent! • Grade 5: 1st Quarter, 2nd Quarter, and 3rd Quarter. • Scores are sent home and shared with parents.

  19. Early Release Dates • 8/23 • 9/27 • 10/18 • 11/8 • 1/17 • 2/14 • 3/7 • 3/28

  20. Parent Academies • Thursday, November 14 (PTA will do a Health and Wellness Circuit) • Tuesday, April 22 (3-5 will host for their Parents for EOG info and strategies)
