  3. UNCLASSIFIED NANU Description • 2 SOPS generates a Notice Advisory to NAVSTAR Users (NANU) message to inform military and civil users of events affecting GPS constellation navigation payload status UNCLASSIFIED

UNCLASSIFIED NANU History • Civil community through on site support personnel convince GPS operational support personnel that outage notices need to be published in 1984 • GPS operational support personnel collaborate and code NANU outage distribution software in 1986 • United States Coast Guard (USCG) receives NANUs and upgrades USCG radio broadcasts to include NANUs in 1988 UNCLASSIFIED

  5. UNCLASSIFIED NANU History • Requirement established to report GPS degradation below a certain level in 1989. • Worldwide navigation users (civilian and military) increased to infinite numbers as utility is established 1988-Present UNCLASSIFIED

UNCLASSIFIED NANU History • MOA established between Department of Transportation (DOT) and Department of Defense (DOD) in Jan 1993 • Annex 1 DOT Representation at the GPS JPO and AFSPACECOM added in Jun 1993 • Annex 2 Second Coded Civil GPS Signal added in Jul 1997 • Annex 3 Information Coordination and Dissemination added in Jul 1999 • Annex 4 Implementing Unique Civil Requirements added in Aug 2000 UNCLASSIFIED

UNCLASSIFIED NANU History • The legacy GPS User Support System (GUSS) was PC-based and developed as an offline tool to automate NANU generation in 1995 • Notified worldwide users of satellite outages, return to service, and general GPS information • MOA established between United States Air Force Space Command (AFSPACECOM) and USCG in Feb 1996 UNCLASSIFIED
