  2. Question One - Answer • Who said, “The only thing to fear, is fear itself”? President Franklin D. Roosevelt in championing the New Deal stated, “The only thing to fear, is fear itself.”

  3. Question Two - Answer • What were the two anticipated outcomes of the New Deal? FDR felt that the New Deal (which was implemented through legislative acts and executive orders) would end the depression and bring about economic recovery.

The first greenbelt town was in Greenbelt, Maryland. Greenbelt towns were government funded. Government officials wanted to convince business to make affordable housing. These communities were but one part of the New Deal. In establishing greenbelt towns, thousands of jobs were created for low-income families.

Three of the benefits in living in factory town communities were: land for kitchen gardens, schools for children who had fathers working in the factories and self-contained communities.

He later became a vocal opponent of the New Deal and a formative opponent of FDR’s. In 1934 he founded a national political association. He was a populist-reformer who lashed out at the privileged.

Long worked at restoring the ordinary man’s faith and importance. His vocal oratories and political activism led to the formation of an estimated 27,000 Share Our Wealth Clubs.
