Problems with parental or peer relationships Health problems including serious illness Bullying Child abuse or domestic violence Issues Facing Children & Young People Self harm including substance abuse, eating problems School related difficulties, e.g. attendance, behaviour Low self esteem, stress, anxiety, depression Bereavement and loss

  3. “There are numerous examples of children who would benefit from early invention, but are not receiving it. This means some children and young people have to reach crisis point before their mental health needs are addressed.”11 Million

School Counselling Service • Established in 1987 • Serves London Boroughs north of the Thames, Spelthorne & Middlesex • Worked in 33 Primary and Secondary schools in 2008 • Provides confidential and professional counselling and play therapy services • Works with children and young people • Has a team of highly qualified, experienced and professionally accredited staff.

Therapy and counselling supports children and young people to: • express themselves freely and safely to a non-judgemental adult • think through their life history and experiences, and work on any unresolved issues • experience a positive, trusting and safe relationship with the therapist/ counsellor • understand their emotions and behaviours • explore current coping strategies
