Founded in 1880 as the League of American Wheelmen, the League of American Bicyclists has been a leading advocate for cycling in the U.S. We promote biking for recreation, fitness, and transportation through education and advocacy to enhance bicycle-friendly communities. Our Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) program recognizes cities for their cycling initiatives, offering resources and support to help them improve. With award levels from Bronze to Platinum, we assess communities on engineering, education, encouragement, enforcement, and evaluation to foster a biking culture across America.
