  2. 1. The Command to love God • Jesus quotes from Deuteronomy 6:5 • And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

The Characteristics of true love for God. • To love God with all my heart, mind, soul, and strength is to commit myself to: 1. be totally loyal to God and obey Him in everything 2. to delight in Him 3. to rejoice in serving Him 4. to desire continually to please Him 5. to seek my happiness in Him 6. to thirst day and night for a fuller enjoyment of Him.

  4. Element 3: To rejoice in serving God. • As we think about rejoicing in serving God, we want to learn: • The relationship between love for God and serving Him. • We are to rejoice in serving Him.

  5. Element 3: To rejoice in serving God. 1. The Relationship between love and service. Deuteronomy 11:13: “And it shall be that if you earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to love the LORD your God andserve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

Element 3: To rejoice in serving God. • Joshua 22:5: • “But take careful heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

  11. Element 3: To rejoice in serving God. • We are to Rejoice in serving Him. • Psalm 100:2: “Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singling.” • God wants us to be happy as we serve Him!

What are the signs of gladness? • You don’t complain or grumble about doing what He asks of you. • Everything you do should be viewed as service to God Colossians 3:23:“Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.” 3. You ask God to help you develop a cheerful spirit!

  13. Element 3: To rejoice in serving God. God is very serious about the attitude we manifest as we serve Him. Deuteronomy 28:47-48: “Because you did notserve the LORD your God with joy and a glad heart, for the abundance of all things; therefore you shall serve your enemies whom the LORD shall send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in the lack of all things; and He will put an iron yoke on your neck until He has destroyed you.”
