SOL’s • History: 2.10 The student will explain the responsibilities of a good citizen, with emphasis on • respecting and protecting the rights and properties of others. • English- covers just about all SOL’s in grades 3-5. • Technology Communication Tools • C/T K-2.7 The student will use a variety of media and formats to communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences. • Identify the best tool to communicate information. • Use technology tools for individual writing, communication, and publishing activities. • Demonstrate the ability to create, save, retrieve, and print document.

Write to the Author • After learning a bit about the author and reading “Loser” you should have thought of some additional questions you might like to ask. • Click on the pen at the bottom of this page and it will take you to a blank Word document. In this document, you will write a letter to Jerry Spinelli telling him your opinion of the book. You should also ask him any questions you might have about the book or himself. • Remember, this is a formal letter so make sure to use correct grammar, spelling, and letter format! • Once you have finished your letter, have a friend proofread it and save your work. We will print the letters out and send them as a class.

  6. Bullying • Have you ever been bullied? Most people have even teachers, athletes, and movie stars!! Think back to “Loser,” Donald was bullied for just about everything from the way he dressed to the way he talked. • Brainstorm what you might have done if you were in Donald’s situation. What would you have done if you were another student in Donald’s class and saw him being bullied?

Kinds of bullying: • Physical bullying: • Hitting, kicking, or pushing someone...or even just threatening to do it • Stealing, hiding or ruining someone's things • Making someone do things he or she don't want to do • Verbal bullying: • Name-calling • Teasing • Insulting • Relationship bullying: • Refusing to talk to someone • Spreading lies or rumors about someone • Making someone do things he or she doesn't want to do
