  1. HE pay squeeze Strike Why I won’t be teaching 6 February (next Thurs) • Trade Unions are democratic organisations that represent the collective interests of employees and negotiate for us. UCU, Unison, Unite represent hundreds of thousands of workers across UK Higher education. • Members of these unions have voted to legally go on strike (withdraw our labour) for one day as part of a dispute over our pay and conditions (n.b. we will not be paid for this day of work!). • We are striking because the real pay of your lecturers has declined by 13% in 5 years. Yet the HE sector has a cash surplus of £1billion. • This year we’ve been offered a 1% rise (less than inflation) while Vice Chancellors have received an average 8.1% (£22,000). • NUS has supported our action – after all, how can you have the best education if people providing it are being short-changed? Ed TalksWe are committed to education and learning, so City UCU will be holding a Teach Out on 6 February (with educational and political talks, music and more!). Come along, get involved!
