Course Aims & Objectives I • Understand the role and work of the professional accountant • Gain knowledge and understanding of the conceptual and applied aspects of accounting • Place accounting in its broader economic, organisational, social and political contexts • Analyse and evaluate corporate performance using financial and other information • Critically apply knowledge of financial reporting, management accounting & finance • Understand the fundamental principles of audit and assurance.

Course Aims & Objectives II • Construct a reasoned argumentsupported by evidence and presented in a written report and oral presentation, evaluating different approaches • Acquire practices of independent thinking and learning, developing critical thinking, enquiry and logical expression • Develop core skills: computer literacy, numeracy, problem-solving, written and oral communication, teamwork, project management, and report writing • Find, use and interpret key primary and secondary sources to investigate companies and industries.

Graduate ProfileAndrew Simner • I chose this course because it was differentto anything on offer elsewhere. • I joined the audit department at KPMGin Canary Wharf for my work placement year and was given the same responsibilities as a first-year graduate recruit. • The course is set up to fast-track students through the professional accountancy exams through a close relationship with the ICAEW. • Andrew graduated in 2013 and is now working at KPMG in London as an Assistant Manager

Graduate ProfileHin Wong • I spent a fantastic year on placement as an Assurance Associate at PwC, where I was able to apply what I learned during the first two years at Alliance MBS. • The School played a crucialpart in me getting this position, organising sessions with external speakers which prepared me for the application process and interviews. • Students were also able to practise these skills through mock interviews with current employees from the Big 4. Hin graduated in 2017 and is now working at PwC as an Assurance Associate

Bhavna … joined Deloitte London after graduation and after being promoted to Assistant Manager has now moved to the Hummingbird Bakery to be their Financial Controller Sharaz … qualified as an ACA Chartered Accountant at Deloitte London and then moved to N Brown Group to be their Group Internal Auditor. Sharaz recently started a new role at STA Travel as a Financial Reporting Manager – you will be able to ask him about his experiences at the panel session later this afternoon

Career Opportunities • Life after Alliance MBS • You will gain access to an accelerated route to chartered accountancy but you are notrestricted to this career path • BSc Accounting is an ideal platform to join a firm of accountants in practice, industry or public sector organisations – or careers in the financial/business sectors • Previous graduates are employed as auditors, tax trainees, trainee chartered accountants, assurance associates and procurement interns at organisations such as BDO, Coop Group, Deloitte, Grant Thornton, HMRC, Mazars, Peugeot, PwC and GVS – with others training to become teachers (PGCE Secondary) • 100% in work or further study within six months (Unistats 2017)

These sessions are run with graduate employers.
