Annapolis • Was founded in 1649 by Puritan exiles from the Virginia colony • Is the state capitol of Maryland • Is the home of the United States Naval Academy and St John’s College • Is situated on the Chesapeake Bay at the mouth of the Severn River • Walkable downtown area with many restaurants and attractions
Location • 26 miles south of Baltimore, 29 miles east of Washington, DC • Serviced by 3 major airports • 61 miles from Washington Dulles International airport • 24 miles from Baltimore-Washington International Airport • 36 miles from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport
Venue: Leows Annapolis Hotel • Easy walking distance to the water front • Was the venue of the 2010 IceCube Collaboration meeting • Frequently used for UMD sponsored conferences • Has working relationship with our travel office • A variety of conference rooms are available on the ground floor • Example prices: • Thomas Point Room seats 100 and was recently quoted at $750/day (is reduced based on food and beverage orders) • Recent quote of $139/night rooms was quoted for a group of 30, will drop for a larger group, depends on time of week/year, will drop for larger group
Summary • A nice, touristically interesting place, with lots of restaurants • East coast, close to major airports • We have previous experience organizing conferences at this venue
