  3. Calibration/Validation • Four Phases of Cal/Val: • Pre-Launch; all time prior to launch – Algorithm verification, sensor testing, and validation preparation • Early Orbit Check-out (first 30-90 days) – System Calibration & Characterization • Intensive Cal/Val (ICV); extending to approximately 24 months post-launch – xDR Validation • Long-Term Monitoring (LTM); through life of sensors • For each phase: • Exit Criteria established • Activities summarized • Products mature through phases independently We Are Here Joint Polar Satellite System

  5. EDR Status(Calibration/Validation) • Multiple levels of maturity • Beta – products are minimally validated; available to users to verify formats and parameters • Provisional – product quality may not be optimal; ready for operational evaluation • Validated – product performance is well for three different stages; ready for operational use • Stage 1 - Product performance has been demonstrated to comply with the specification using a small number of independent measurements obtained from selected locations, periods, and associated ground-truth/field program efforts. • Stage 2 - Product performance has been demonstrated to comply with the specification over a widely distributed set of locations and periods via several ground-truth and validation efforts. • Stage 3 –Product performance has been demonstrated to comply with the specification and the uncertainties in the product well established via independent measurements in a systematic and statistically robust way representing global conditions.

  6. EDR Status(Selected Products) Beta Validated (Stage 1) Validated (Stage 2) Provisional 13 June 2012 Current Projected Beta Declaration
