  2. The Sonics were one of the first punk bands to exist and started in 1960

  3. MC5, formed in 1964, were one of the first bands to create then genre “garage rock”

  4. The Ramones, formed in 1974, could arguably be one of the biggest punk bands ever, opened up punk to the mainstream society.

  5. The Misfits, formed in 1977, were a darker type of punk and are notoriously known worldwide.

  6. Fugazi, formed in 1987, can also be considered as a post-harcore band, incorporated funk and reggae beats, irregular stop-start song structures, and heavy riffs in their music.

  7. Nirvana, also formed in 1987, was one of the biggest punk bands to make it at the time, and during the ‘90s, their music was dark and full of emotion.

  8. Green Day, formed in 1987, had their breakout album “Dookie” in 1994, and still remain a popular rock artist today.

  9. Sublime, formed in 1988, were underground, and remained unknown to most people until the death of their singer/guitarist Bradley Nowell in 1996.

  10. Blink-182 was formed in 1992, and became one of the biggest punk groups in the mid to late ‘90s and early ‘00s, with albums such as “Dude Ranch”, and “Enema of the State”

  11. New Found Glory, formed in 1997, are from Coral Springs, Florida, and arrived on the mainstream punk scene with their cover EP titled “From The Screen to Your Stereo”, and when their song “Hit Or Miss” from their fist album reached mainstream acclaim.

  12. Sum 41, formed in 1999, were a bad kid style punk, where there lyrics reached out to a younger population, their album “All Killer No Filler” was certified platinum in the U.S., U.K., and Canada

  13. The Story So Far, formed in 2007, bring a new sound to pop punk, and are currently top dog in that genre. They just released their new album “What You Don’t See” earlier in 2013.
