  1. Team #13 Fantasia Adeola Bannis, Ethan Goldblum, Claire Mitchell, Nirav Patel

  2. Concept & Motivation • Create an interactive, collaborative experience for Disney Parks using "magic wands" that can communicate with one another and a coordinator to play games, draw digital images, participate in voting, and allow for park-wide guest tracking. • Develop a network of low-cost end user devices and base stations connected by a low-power wireless mesh standard. • Now: Long lines, boring waiting times, low interaction • Not a very “magical” experience • After: Environment of collaboration and involvement • Virtual doodling • Event voting • Interactive group games

  3. Competitive Analysis • H-ITT Clicker (http://www.h-itt.com/) • Used in education for in-class participation • Users must all aim at a common IR/RF receiver • Can only be used to vote (up to 10 choices) • Get-In-Line (http://getinlinegames.com/) • Games and activities for making waiting in queues more enjoyable • Currently in development at CMU's ETC • Software only, uses cell phones • WiimoteSmoothboard (http://smoothboard.net/) • Turns a surface into an interactive whiteboard using a Wii remote as an IR camera • Our system tracks multiple IR blobs

  4. Requirements • Functional • Track 10 IR blobs simultaneously • Send receive events over Zigbee • Coordinate button presses and RF information with events • Recognize gestures from accelerometer • Set LEDs on wands • Behavioral • Network must not drop more than 5% of Zigbee packets • Battery life of at least 1 week • 100ft range outdoors • Easy to carry around and safe for children • Power saving mode – sleep when moved away from a coordinator • Cameras should be able to process movement information and have image appear on screen in real time

  5. Technical Specifications •  Hardware: • Wand A • Atmel ATmega168V Microcontroller • XBee 2.5 Series 802.15.4 SoC • LIS302DL 3-Axis Accelerometer • RGB and Infrared LEDs • Wand B • Atmel Raven • RGB and Infrared LEDs • Base Station • Desktop computer • Logitech Quickcam Communicate STX • XBee 2.5 Series 802.15.4 SoC • Atmel RZUSBSTICK • Software: • Wand A: • Arduino • Wand B: • Contiki Operating System • Base Station: • Linux • Pygame • PyGTK •  Protocols • 802.15.4 • Zigbee • 6LoWPAN
