  3. The Love Machine Review: I read it in one greedy gulp, enjoying every minute." -Liz Smith "[Susann's] pulp poetry resonates to this day. With her formula of sex, drugs, and show business, Susann didn't so much capture the tenor of her times as she did predict the Zeitgeist of ours." -Detour Quotes: “Never judge anyone by another's opinions. We all have different sides that we show to different people.” ― Jacqueline Susann, Valley of the Dolls “Never let anyone shame you into doing anything you don't choose to do. Keep your identity.” ― Jacqueline Susann, Valley of the Dolls Bibliographical Info. Jacqueline Sullivan has been a mixed media artist since first introduced to collage in a high school art class. 4. The War in Vietnam, 1969-1973 The situation inherited by Richard Nixon was no less a "mess" than it was in November 1963 when Lyndon Johnson rose to the presidency. In fact, it was much worse. Over 500,000 troops were stationed in Vietnam; Americans killed in action averaged 1200 a month. And domestic opinion about the war was divided (no consensus on a course of action in Vietnam), negative (a majority felt that the war was a mistake), and pessimistic (people saw little progress at the peace talks and believed the fighting would go on for at least 2 more years). Added to the mix were the racial divisions in the country, the skepticism toward within the anti-war movement, and a long standing antipathy toward Nixon among Democratic loyalists. President: “Dwight David Eisenhower” (1890-1969) “Term as President”: “1953-1961” Party: “Republican” Vice President: Richard Milhous Nixon

  5. Bill Cosby's work has always has always been distinguished by a keen intelligence, in every medium to which he turns his talents. 'The Bill Cosby Show' is one of Coz's less distinguished credits, but it deserves to be better known: this series is a brave attempt at doing something different. Although nominally a comedy, 'The Bill Cosby Show' was not a conventional sitcom, and there was only secondary emphasis on humor. (In other words, the show wasn't very funny ... but it wasn't trying to be.) Cosby was more interested in depicting believable characters in plausible situations, addressing genuine issues of the time. 7. Symbols Sunsets and Sunrises: Sunsets and sunrises in The Outsiders represent the beauty and goodness in the world, particularly after Johnny compares the gold in the poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” to the gold of the sunrises and sunsets Ponyboy enjoys. The sunset also stands for the common humanity of all people, regardless of the gang to which they belong—in their first conversation at the drive-in, Cherry and Ponyboy find common ground in their enjoyment of the same sunset from opposite sides of town.

A hippie haze of happy days. And a few not-so-happy days. Dozens of books have been written about the decade, but 40 years later, author Rob Kirkpatrick has narrowed it all down to one epic year: 1969.

  10. There was no special edition of the 1969 Buick GS 400. That contrasted with the goings on at GM's other divisions, each of which was maneuvering to increase its midsize muscle car profile. Chevy uncorked some special-order super Chevelles. Olds headlined Hurst editions of the 4-4-2. And Pontiac's big news was a pop-culture-inspired version of the GTO.

  11. The wild bunch In the Wild Bunch the movie opens with a group of aging outlaw's final score, a bank robbery. The event concludes with a violent and overtly bloody shootout that would generally mark the finale of a movie. This is correct in that it marks the finale of an era, for the characters and the world they live in. They simply can no longer keep up, the times are changing, technology advancing, and they're style of life is getting left behind in the dust that they spent so long galloping through. They abandon their careers for the simpler life of retirement. They enjoy this time, they live their fantasies. During this time the law is always on their tracks, bounty hunters. The further into their fantasy they get, the closer their demise seems to get. When one of their own is captured they are faced with the choice of escape or what is certainly a suicide mission to attempt and free their fallen behind comrade
