Cadet Aviation Program • Powered flying has been a major part of Air Cadets since start • Gliding program began in 1965, now largest glider training program in the world • Air Cadet League owns and insures 65 gliders and 30 tow planes • Over 22 000 junior cadets participate in familiarization flying in spring and fall • Every summer, over 500 senior cadets get a Glider Pilot Licence (GPL) or Private Pilot Licence (PPL) through cadet program • Average of 55 000 glider flights a year in Air Cadet SGS 2-33 gliders

Summer Courses (Lvl 3) • Advanced Aviation Course@ Trenton (3 weeks) • Advanced Aviation Technology - Airport Operations@ Canadore College (6 weeks) • Advanced Aviation Technology - Aircraft Maintenance@ Canadore College (6 weeks) • Advanced Aerospace@ RGS Eastern (6 weeks) • Oshkosh Trip@ EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, Wisconsin (2 weeks)

  6. Summer Courses • Glider Pilot Scholarship@ RGS Central (6 weeks) - Level 3

  7. Summer Courses • Power Pilot Scholarship@ various flight centres (7 weeks) – Level 4

  10. Selection Process • Interview (40%) • Exam (35%) • School Marks (10%) • Other (15%) • Rank & Years In • Summer Courses • Aviation Experience * Percentages are approximate

  11. Glider Physical Limits • Limits are due to SGS 2-33 weight and balance limitations and cockpit size • Cadets not meeting limits will result in them being RTU’d (Returned to Unit)

  12. PGS Information • Units: • Theory of Flight • Air Law • Meteorology • Navigation/Radio/Airmanship • Quizzes/homework done during each unit • Tests at the end of each unit, done at beginning of class (6:30 pm) • PGS Exam in December and practice exams afterwards for applicants

  13. PGS Information • Will require: From the Ground Up – 29th Edition ($60)
